He was thinking of me just then, she realised as she read and re-read his text message. It was a plain text, devoid of any romantic or loving undertones. It stated, in a very direct manner, a fact; and posed, in a clear way, a question. Yet, she sensed that the sender’s intention to contact her was far less plain than the content of the message. After all, why would he take the trouble to communicate with her, if he did not care for her? It was a foreign idea to her – that she might have been the object of someone else’s thoughts, that her feelings were being considered, and that some action had been taken not to injure them – that she found it hard to believe it might be true. But what could be better evidence than this short message, sent at seven thirty in the morning?
This one is kind of struggling, but in a positive way. On the one hand, she seems to have a low self-esteem, but on the other hand, she does not take everything for granted. I’m not sure yet, what is the actual core: that she realizes that someone cares for her and her gratitude and modesty, or the fact that the idea that someone is interested in her is too dreamlike (and thus that she does not treasure herself enough)? Difficult question.

I think she has trouble believing that the person she loves so much might truly care for her too …

I don’t know her life story, we only get a very very small glimpse inside a specific situation. So if she cannot believe that he really cares about her, then she either had many bad experiences before or he behaved in several ways before that made her suspicious. But form the writing style, it seems that he is a stranger, as there is just reference to a sender, so they do not sound that close at all, though this is mere speculation. So I guess, she is insecure about it due to her past. On the other hand, the text he wrote was not romantic, but just plainly, so there must be a story before between them. So these small lines of a story make quite a mystery and give room for interpretation.

Good analysis!!! I know the full story (because it’s mine), but I don’t want to give it all away. Actually my goal this year is to write a novel – the story of the two characters who are texting in this post. Thanks for your comments by the way, I will check out your blog too!

Sure, I can understand that you don’t want to give it away when you write a novel about it. Yet, a great preview. Though I have to analyze your posts, because they have so much inside that it is very inspiring.
Feel free to check out my posts. I am curious what you think of them. 🙂
